Sustainable corrugated tray for microgreens supplier Lille Blad

Lille Blad, a Norwegian supplier of fresh microgreens, needed a delivery tray suitable for use in restaurants and professional kitchens—where quick crop cycles, cleanliness, and handling efficiency matter. Traditionally, this type of product is grown and delivered in rigid plastic trays. Driven by a strategic goal to eliminate plastic from their operations, Lille Blad sought a sustainable alternative to their former plastic tray solution.

Our team of expert designers wanted to create a tray made entirely from corrugated board and designed specifically for short-cycle crops like microgreens. Since microgreens grow in a moist environment, the tray also had to be moisture tolerant. It was equally important to ensure that the microgreens do not dry out during transport and storage, which placed additional demands on the tray’s material and design.

The result is one of the first fiber-based solutions of its kind in a category dominated by plastic, this tray offers a simple, scalable shift toward smarter use of materials—without changing how growers or kitchens work. The tray has got ventilation options, and the packaging supports different ways of working. Some kitchens unfold the entire box and harvest all the contents at once. Others keep the box as a container from which they can efficiently harvest over time. Overall, this means that we provide strong support for kitchen workflows, even though kitchens have different processes. This packaging solution has been awarded with a ScanStar 2025.
