Worldwide Partner Smurfit Westrock Marks Ryder Cup ‘Year to Go’ Milestone

Smurfit Westrock, the world’s largest paper-based packaging company, joined organizers, sponsors and guests at Adare Manor in County Limerick to celebrate the Ryder Cup’s ‘Year to Go’ milestone.

As a Worldwide Partner and the Official Packaging Innovation Partner of the Ryder Cup, the Dublin-headquartered company was proud to help launch the countdown to the event’s return to Ireland in September 2027. Held every two years, the Ryder Cup is one of golf’s most prestigious team competitions, featuring the best players from Europe and the United States.

“The Ryder Cup brings people together in a truly unique way,” said Tony Smurfit, President and CEO of Smurfit Westrock. “We are honored to be part of an event that puts Ireland on the world stage and unites millions of sports fans. As a company with deep Irish roots and a global presence, this is a particularly meaningful moment for Smurfit Westrock.”

In partnership with the Ryder Cup and Adare Manor, Smurfit Westrock’s circular and innovative paper-based packaging solutions will help advance the shared ambition to make the event the most sustainable in its history.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Smurfit Westrock to the Ryder Cup family as we celebrate the return of this iconic event to Ireland on its 100th anniversary. Having a company with such a proud Irish heritage and enduring commitment to sustainability alongside us makes this moment even more special,” said Richard Atkinson, Chief Ryder Cup Officer at the European Tour group.

Smurfit Westrock’s association with golf and the Ryder Cup is long standing. The company and its then Chairman and CEO, Dr. Michael Smurfit, played a pivotal role in bringing the Ryder Cup to The K Club in Ireland in 2006 and further deepened its ties to professional golf by sponsoring the European Open for several years at the same venue.

Smurfit Westrock’s partnership with the Ryder Cup includes the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, the 2029 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, and the 2031 Ryder Cup at Camiral in Costa Brava, near Barcelona.
