Smurfit Westrock’s sustainability credentials recognized with Clean200 listing
Smurfit Westrock has once again been included on the 2026 Carbon Clean200, a global list of 200 publicly traded companies leading the sustainable clean energy economy.
The 2026 Clean200 highlights firms generating substantial revenue from products and services aligned with the Corporate Knights Sustainable Economy Taxonomy, which considers criteria such as climate adaptation and resilience, use of sustainable biofuels and smart grid technology.
For the 200 companies that made this year’s list, revenue from sustainable activities totalled US$2.8 trillion, up 12% from last year. Smurfit Westrock has an improved year-on-year ranking and the highest packaging industry listing.
Garrett Quinn, Smurfit Westrock Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “I’m proud to see our sustainability strategy recognized with inclusion on the 2026 Clean200 list. This honor reflects the progress our teams are making globally to strengthen circularity and support our customers in the delivery of their own sustainability goals.”
Smurfit Westrock has made significant progress towards reducing carbon emissions and embedding sustainability across all its operations. Switching to biomass boilers, electrification of mill processes and researching new and emerging technologies such as geothermal are some of the actions taken so far as part of the company’s Net Zero Transition Plan.
The 2026 Clean200 report was released by Corporate Knights, a sustainable-economy media and research organization and As You Sow, a leading shareholder advocacy group.
