Smurfit Westrock unveils world’s first dedicated clinical packaging facility
Over €40 million invested in state-of-the-art Adherence & Clinicals plant at Dublin Airport
Smurfit Westrock has inaugurated the first-of-its-kind adherence and clinical packaging facility, reinforcing Ireland’s role at the forefront of global healthcare.
Over €40 million was invested in the brand-new site which will provide packaging solutions for clinical trials and regulated pharma packaging. The facility’s design and its operational processes reflect those of a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, with patient focus at the core.
Packaging plays a critical role in the success of clinical healthcare trials. Smurfit Westrock provides an industry-leading range of clinical trial packaging solutions designed to improve patient adherence and provide enhanced data.
Speaking at the opening, Tony Smurfit, President and CEO of Smurfit Westrock, said: “We are immensely proud of this groundbreaking and beautifully designed new plant. The packaging solutions which are designed and manufactured here will contribute significantly to the next generation of life-saving medicines.”
Strategically located adjacent to Dublin Airport, the facility houses a 170-person team of highly skilled designers, operators and support functions. It also has an Experience Centre which brings to life the extensive capabilities for visitors’ individual requirements.
With the new site ideally situated to serve Europe, Smurfit Westrock’s world-leading service in the adherence and clinical trials packaging space is also supported by its sites in Kunshan, China and Mebane, North Carolina in the U.S.
