Hospice House Foundation Poland

The Hospice House Foundation, based in Pruszcz Gdański, Poland, was established in December 2020. The priority of its program is to provide patients with professional medical care and compassionate emotional support. The Foundation supports patients and their loved ones so they can spend the time they have left with dignity, peace and meaning. Its medical team focuses on effective pain management, preventing complications and alleviating other symptoms associated with illness, helping patients experience each day with a sense of safety and as much comfort as possible.

Hospice House & Smurfit Westrock

In July 2023, following an initiative by a Smurfit Westrock employee in Pruszcz Gdański, Poland, Smurfit Westrock began working with the Hospice House Foundation to support its work. After identifying the Foundation’s most pressing needs, an oxygen concentrator was purchased — a specialized medical device that provides patients with oxygen-enriched air.

In September 2024, the Foundation moved into a new, larger facility provided by Gdańsk County. The new space enabled the Foundation to expand its services and provide support to patients and their families more effectively. To support the Hospice House Foundation's move, kitchen furniture was provided to help equip the new facility.

Supported by the Smurfit Westrock Foundation

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Hospice House Foundation and our support for its move into a new facility, the Smurfit Westrock Foundation provided a €44,851 grant.

The funding enabled the purchase of specialized medical and operational equipment for three newly established clinics focused on:

  • pain management,
  • geriatric care, and
  • palliative care

The clinics were fully equipped with high-quality medical equipment, including:

  • infusion pumps,
  • oxygen concentrators, and
  • a modern electric treatment table.

The funding helped create a fully functional health care facility designed to meet the growing needs of residents in the region. The renovated spaces combine modern, functional design with a welcoming environment, providing patients with dignified and comfortable conditions for care.

Opening ceremony for the clinic

In February 2026, the official opening of the newly established palliative care clinic was held at the Hospice House Foundation's headquarters. The event marked an important step in expanding access to geriatric care, palliative care and pain management services in Gdańsk County, Poland. The new space was designed to provide patients and their families with comprehensive, dignified and professional support.

“Demographic changes mean that, year after year, more people require palliative and hospice care. We want to be a place that provides not only professional medical assistance, but also support for the families and loved ones of our patients.” — Katarzyna Kałduńska, president of the Management Board of the Hospice House Foundation

Through the commitment of its partners and the support of the Smurfit Westrock Foundation, the Hospice House Foundation was able to create a modern, fully equipped space that directly addresses the health care needs of residents of Gdańsk County.

Smurfit Westrock has a deep commitment to supporting the communities in which we live and work and championing the vulnerable. Each year our employees continue to generously give their time, energy, and expertise, to empower communities, encourage wellbeing and inspire future generations.
