Legal Team Impacts Local Community Through Pro Bono Work
Members of Smurfit Westrock’s Legal team in our North American headquarters are turning their professional expertise into meaningful impact through pro bono legal work and volunteer service. The Pro Bono and Community Service Committee in Atlanta connects lawyers, paralegals and staff with nonprofits in order to make a positive impact in the community.
The team partners with local organizations, such as Atlanta Legal Aid, which supports low-income residents, and the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, which links volunteer lawyers with nonprofits serving vulnerable communities. Through these partners, the team can reach those who need legal help the most.
For its role in the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, a two-week fundraising competition among law firms and corporate legal departments to help fight hunger across the state, the team earned the Volunteer Legal Power in Participation Award. Members of the team worked at a local community food bank, stocking shelves, assisting customers and providing over 6,000 pounds of food (around 5,043 meals) for families experiencing food insecurity.
“This recognition is especially meaningful to us,” explained Lisa Williams, Smurfit Westrock senior paralegal and committee co-chair. “It is a testament to the dedication and compassion of our team, whose commitment to service goes beyond legal expertise and extends to making a direct, positive impact on the lives of those who face food insecurity every day.”
Smurfit Westrock has a deep commitment to supporting the communities in which we live and work and championing the vulnerable. Each year our employees continue to generously give their time, energy, and expertise, to empower communities, encourage wellbeing and inspire future generations.
