Smurfit Westrock employees in Atlanta, in partnership with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena, planted trees to enhance the local urban tree canopy as part of the Rock the Rim campaign. Through this campaign, every time a Hawks basketball player dunks the ball, a tree is planted in the Atlanta area. In the first two seasons of this initiative, players racked up more than 900 dunks. 

In October, more than 50 Smurfit Westrock and Atlanta Hawks volunteers braved the rain to plant 100 Rock the Rim trees in Freedom Park. Trees Atlanta, a Smurfit Westrock partner since 2018, led the effort to plant native trees in a location where invasive species had been removed. 

 

  Smurfit Westrock is the official partner of State Farm Arena’s Resource Recovery Room, an area dedicated to sorting waste generated during all arena events. We support the arena’s recycling efforts so it can maintain zero-waste status by diverting at least 90% of all waste from landfills. State Farm Arena is the world’s first sports and live entertainment venue to receive TRUE Platinum Certification for zero waste.
