Stocking Food Banks in North America
Across North America, employees in Alabama, Texas and Ontario partnered with food banks and community organizations in 2025 to fight food insecurity and support local families. Some of the facilities have long-standing relationships with these organizations.
When employees at our Demopolis, Alabama mill learned that local food banks are able to stretch their dollars by purchasing food at wholesale discounts, they decided to raise funds for their annual Stock the Box drive instead of collecting non-perishable food items. Employees donated over $1,000 and the mill matched it, providing food to around 500 people.
In San Antonio, Texas, employees volunteered to pack and sort food for the San Antonio Food Bank. Volunteers from the plant worked in the food bank warehouse in March and June, sorting food items and packing products into boxes for distribution, which helped provide for the over 1,200 families who depend on the food bank.
Employees in Milton, Ontario, packed kits for Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell, a summer program that provides nutritious meals for children facing food insecurity when they don’t have access to school meals. In addition, Smurfit Westrock designed and donated approximately 35,000 boxes used to deliver the food kits to more than 200 communities across Canada.
Our Etobicoke facility in Toronto, fought food insecurity through Haven on the Queensway. Employees collected 400 pounds of non-perishable food items and packed food boxes, ensuring around 200 local families had a meal on the table.
