The Step Challenge at Smurfit Westrock’s Italy head office became a way to give back to the community as well as provide a fitness challenge. Employees formed teams, each with the shared goal of reaching 2,000,000 steps (around 260 km or over 160 miles) over six weeks to promote health, teamwork and solidarity. The initiative took on extra meaning when participants learned that each team could select a local nonprofit organization to receive a donation from the company once they’ve met their goal.

Thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved, we donated a total of €6,000 to nine nonprofit associations across Italy. Among the selected charities were AISM, ANFFAS, A.I.PRO.GE.S.B, CAV Novi Ligure, Fondazione ANT Italia Onlus, La Nostra Casa ODV, IRIS Novi Ligure, JADA, and Luminas. These organizations provide vital support to people living with chronic illnesses, disabilities and economic hardship, as well as to children and families in need.

By walking together towards a common goal, Smurfit Westrock Italy employees not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also demonstrated the power of collective action, showing that small steps can make a big difference when taken together.
