How our innovative packaging increased freezer storage capacity by 75% for Pardal
Brazilian ice-cream maker Pardal improved efficiency and increased freezer storage by 75% with a single, tape-free pack design developed with Smurfit Westrock.
The Challenge
Brazilian company Pardal has two shapes of ice lollies, conical and square, and require flexibility in the logistics to fulfil orders. The need for two types of outer packaging had a negative impact on the packaging and assembly process, which was the main bottleneck because they needed tape for closure. A solution was needed that would fit both shapes and be suitable throughout the supply chain up to the point of purchase.
The Approach
Working closely with Pardal we developed one standard pack to fit both types of ice lollies. The solution has an easily removed automatic back panel, optimising the assembly time and eliminating the use of tape. It also includes side holes which helps with internal cooling and top holes to allow product visibility. At the point of purchase the top flaps can be easily detached to place the box inside the freezer
The Result
The new sustainable pack optimises transport and display and delivers multiple customer benefits including better inventory control, the elimination of adhesive tape costs and a 50% reduction in machine setup. Additionally, the pack has increased freezer storage capacity by 75% and storage capacity at the assembly line by 50%.
