Helping plant producer, Tropica, switch from plastic to corrugated trays eliminating 12.4 tons of plastic annually

The Challenge

Tropica, a leading producer of aquarium plants, fertilizers, and equipment, provides daily deliveries to retailers across Europe, Asia, and North America. Driven by a strategic goal to eliminate plastic from their operations, Tropica sought a sustainable alternative to their former plastic tray solution.

The Approach

Our collaboration with Tropica produced an innovative corrugated cardboard tray, designed to meet their specific needs. The tray features side gluing and four locking mechanisms for quick assembly and stability. Top cutouts enable fast filling with small aquarium plants, while bottom cutouts ensure stable stacking, protecting products and securely locking trays together.

The Result

By switching to our corrugated tray packaging for plants, Tropica saves 12.4 tons of plastic annually. These recyclable trays align with Tropica's sustainability goals and optimize their supply chain. The solution also allowed pallets to be double-stacked, reducing wasted truck space, cutting CO₂emissions and minimising the environmental footprint of their operations.
