Coca-Cola’s K-WAVE launch aimed to tap into the vibrant energy of K-Pop and connect with fans in a novel way. They challenged Smurfit Westrock to engineer an e-commerce packaging solution that would ensure product protection throughout the shipping process while capturing the excitement of the campaign. The result is a collaboration that sparks curiosity, safeguards the product, and redefines how brands interact with their audiences online.

The Challenge

When leading beverage brand The Coca-Cola Company launched K-Wave, its newest Coca-Cola Creations flavor, it sought to capture the passion of 150 million young K-Pop fans, boosting brand enthusiasm and sales among Gen Z through a multi-tiered campaign that offered innovative, exclusive experiences tied to this limited-edition beverage. An online-only offering, this special promotion needed packaging that was unique, striking and durable.

The Approach

As a trusted partner, we collaborated with Coca-Cola to create a novel structure that showcased Coca-Cola's bold thematic K-Pop artwork (which even included an ombre border that hinted at the can’s design!). The package emanated the exclusivity this audience craves by holding the key to a range of rare experiences and engagements. Custom inserts kept the cans safely in place while two streamlined holes served as handles — ensuring beauty and functionality.
